The show on this album was performed in Olomouc, Czech Republic, at the Moravian
Theatre, in the year 2010. TheCaesar Gallery organized a retrospective exhibition
called “Residents in Residence - Art Retrospective”[curator MirekSchubert].
The exhibition contained art, constumes, masks and other artefacts » show more
of The Residents
and Už jsme doma wereasked, if they could create their own versions of The
Residents’ songs, and play them, to support the exhibition. As RandyRose, the
Residents’ singer, was invited for the opening [besides artist Leigh Barbier] and
staying in Olomouc for a coupleof days, it was a good opportunity to have him on
one stage with Už jsme doma.
The Residents and Už jsme doma have been close friends for more than 25 years
and this is not the first collaborationbetween them. The first one happened in 1995
for the “Freak Show Live”, where Už jsme doma were playing as a collectiveactor therole of the “Circus band” and where Miroslav Wanek worked as musical director,
arranger and conductor.Miroslav is also the co-author [with Karel Císař] of the book “Eyeball toEyeball” [published by ARGO, 1995], one of the most complete books of The Residents’ lyrics.
For the show in Olomouc 13 songs were chosen, partly by Miroslav Wanek and partly by Randy. Miroslav turned theoriginal arrangements into the UJD sound with fullrespect to The Residents style and mood. He was able to use his ownexperience with this kind of work – in 1981, during the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, he discovered recordingsof The Residents [coming to the country in a strange andillegal way] and for his band FPB [one of the first Czech punkbands] he arranged two songs of The Residents and even wrote Czech lyrics to them. It was The Spot andSanta Dog.Both songs now appear on this album with Randy. The circle is complete.
The show in Olomouc was organized by the Caesar Gallery [Miroslav Schubert] in collaboration with Mona Lisa Gallery [Libor Gronský] under the name “Their Finest Flowers”[to remind album Our Finest Flowers] and it had two parts – in the first half UJD played their own repertoirebased on the album Jeskyně [Caves] and in the second part – UJD & Randy did 13 UJD versions of The Residents’songs – this part of the show you can hear on this album.
It was a Moravian Meeting of two long time close friends.
